Celebrating Doula By Destiny

Born from loss.
Rooted in love.
Guided by purpose.
Some moments in life forever change who we are.
For Valoria, one of those moments was watching her mother approach the end of her life.
As a respite caregiver, Valoria was by her mother’s side during her final months. Her family believed they were prepared. They had hospice support, loved ones around them, and the desire to provide the very best care possible. Yet as her mother’s journey unfolded, Valoria witnessed firsthand the gaps in care, communication, and understanding that can leave families feeling overwhelmed and uncertain during one of life’s most vulnerable seasons.
She saw how difficult it can be to know what questions to ask, what decisions need to be made, and how to advocate for the comfort and wishes of someone you love.
Those experiences stayed with her.
After her mother’s passing, Valoria began reflecting on what happened and what could have been different. She realized families deserve access to information, meaningful conversations, and compassionate support before they face a crisis.
From that realization, #DoulabyDestiny was born.
Her accomplishments include her “Parting Gift” interview published in O, The Oprah Magazine, as well as being named the 2019 Grand Prize Winner of the AARP Boomer Conference Pitch Competition.
But beyond the titles and accolades, Valoria’s most meaningful work is transforming her personal experience into a legacy of service.
Her mother’s death gave birth to Doula by Destiny.
Today, Valoria honors her mother by helping other families navigate the end-of-life journey with the preparation, compassion, and understanding she wishes her own family had experienced.
Because the end of life is still life. And how we prepare for it matters.
